Words of wisdom from Wave 1

Introducing a new system can be challenging for any employee group, but can be even more so with IT professionals whose technological expertise extends beyond the ordinary working professional. The right attitude, according to one team on campus, can make all the difference.

Karen Adamson’s Student Systems Applications Support team was one of the first groups to go-live with myIT in early November. According to Adamson, because her team works in software development on a day-to-day basis, they were not fazed by the need for testing, refining and system enhancements that immediately followed go-live.

Accustomed to testing systems and knowing the software could be adapted to their needs meant they were able to develop detailed requests the project team responded to in a timely manner.

“Very few times did they say that would be an enhancement that would have to be implemented down the road,” Adamson said.

Adamson was impressed not only by the responsiveness, but also the personal attention her team received in the early days of implementation. Two weeks post-go-live, she says, the system was “tons better” than its initial introduction. She says myIT is more organized due to the dashboards, noting that her team likes the “crisp presentation” of tickets and the fact that they can see the items they are currently addressing.

Her advice to others is to remember that the implementation team is available to help—referring again to its responsiveness to her team’s needs. And, she adds with a smile, “Be thankful that we went first.”
